SHE SHOOTS – Episode 37: Lynn Smith – Canadian Ladies Trapshooting Champion

This month we are welcoming Lynn Smith, The Ladies High Overall winner of the 2024 Canadian Trapshooting Championships in Richmond British Columbia and 3 time Canadian Ladies Champion.

About Lynn Smith

Lynn started trap shooting June of 2015 and has registered just under 72,000 targets since then. She has shot in 36 different clubs across North America, from Vancouver, BC to St. John’s, Newfoundland and From High Prairie, Alberta to Tucson, Arizona and Sparta, Illinois. Lynn has a lifetime singles average of 93.68 and has reached the 26 yard line in handicap, she needs one more yard to reach as far back as
any shooter can go (which we call the Wall).

Lynn is a six time Alberta Provincial Lady Champion, in 2018 she won the Alberta Provincial Handicap championship (a win over all categories, mens, ladies and Juniors). Lynn was also runner up in the High All Around that year(High All around consists of a combination of 200 championship singles, 100 championship doubles and 100 championship handicap targets). Lynn was in a shoot off with a gentleman and lost; hence why she was runner up overall. Lynn is a Canadian Ladies Singles champion in 2019,2023 and in 2024; however, Lynn has also won in 2019 and 2024 the Ladies Handicap which makes her the Ladies High All Around for those two years.

Lynn recorded her first 100 straight in singles in 2019 at the Edmonton Gun Club in Alberta where her name is put on a wooden plaque on a wall. Lynn has since recorded six more 100 straights: 2 in Calgary, 1 in Athabasca, 1 in Wainwright, 1 in Sparta, Illinois. Although all her 100 straights have a significant meaning the ones that stand out for her are: Sparta (world Championships), Wainwright she was the first woman to shoot 100 straight. Athabasca she was not only the first woman to shoot 100 straight but joined an elite club of only a handful of shooters in the history of the club to do so. And finally, Western Zones in Calgary (Western Zones is a satellite shoot that goes from Alaska down to California where clubs report scores on a satellite system). Lynn also won the Ladies High overall the doubles and the singles in this Western Zone where 175 ladies shot in these events. Lynn was also the first woman to win the High Overall in 2018 at the Castor Gun Club in Alberta and this club has put on this tournament for 37 years. Lynn was also the Ladies Handicap champion 2023 at the Tucson Autumn Grande and she was the ladies handicap champion 2019 at the Atlantic Provinces shoot.

Lynn has been the Alberta ladies singles champion from 2018 to 2023 and the Alberta ladies High average from 2018 to 2024.

After Lynn’s first Canadian win in 2019 her husband, Jesse Smith and their children built their own trap range which is now called “Dvine Trap Range” where we hold our annual PITA and ATA shoots. (DVine was featured in Trap and Field Magazine).
