SHE SHOOTS – Episode 10: Up in Smoke
This month, we talk to Terri Huston; Sporting Clays enthusiast, competitor, Instructor, and the Lesson and Corporate Event Coordinator for the Vancouver Gun Club. She Founded Guns & Wild Roses; a women’s Sporting Clays event where women can come and learn in a safe and supportive environment.
Terri Huston
Terri Huston Began shooting in 2015 and she quickly began to compete. She won 2nd place in the BC Provincials in 2019 then went on to compete at the Nationals, where she placed 6th. She loved shooting Sporting Clays so much that she decided to share her passion by creating Guns & Wild Roses in 2017 with the help of Bill Solberg and Mike House.
The idea was to provide instruction, guns that fit women (not their husbands guns) and a safe, friendly and fun environment, they can introduce more women to the sport of shotgun shooting, and share our passion for the sport. Italian Sporting Goods immediately joined as their sponsor and has had many fun and successful events over the last few years, growing from their initial group of 5 to over 225 ladies on their mailing list.
They have five NSCA Level 1 Instructors and a fantastic support team setting their courses. They have also recently started the first ever Ladies League at the Vancouver Gun Club which meets once a month – just to go shooting with the girls.
Guns & Wild Roses has now evolved into a second class called Fundamentals which is open to men, women and juniors over the age of 10. It has also become a great success.
