SHE SHOOTS PODCAST – Episode 27: Amber Berukoff – Fun Shoot Fundamentals

This month, we welcome Amber Berukoff, owner of Cantac Firearms, Cantac Machining LTD and candy store in Castlegar, Match Director for the West Kootenay Marksmen, President of the Castlegar Pistol Club, and the Founder/Managing Director of the West Kootenay Ladies Shooting Group.

Amber or “Lola” to her friends is a busy business owner and mom to 2 beautiful children. She is a  licensed gunsmith as well as a certified range officer.

In her spare time, she enjoys running matches, events and classes that entice women, kids and those who need help stepping into the firearms community the opportunity to do so.

In her community, she is a director of multiple non profits related to wildlife conservation and community management, including the West Kootenay Marksmen, Castlegar Pistol Club, and West Kootenay Ladies Shooting Group. Amber loves seeing the look of excitement that new shooters get when introduced to the sport and it is her goal to be that stepping stone for whoever needs it.

SHE SHOOTS PODCAST – Episode 26: Teri Bryant – Chief Firearms Officer

Join the ladies of the CUSF Women’s program, Project Mapleseed and LadyGuns for this episode of “She Shoots.”

This month, we welcome Teri Bryant, Alberta’s Chief Firearms Officer.

Teri was a member of the Alberta Firearms Advisory Committee. She served as the secretary of the Alberta Arms and Cartridge Collectors Association for the past 16 years and is the president of the Military Collectors Club of Canada. Teri was an associate professor with the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary on national and international business.

As Chief Firearms Officer (CFO), Teri demonstrates that public safety and a flourishing firearms community are mutually complementary goals. She will ensure that we preserve for future generations a firearms heritage that reflects Alberta’s values of safety, responsibility and respect for individual rights.

A major part of CFO Teri’s role is to help bond Alberta’s law-abiding firearms community together. She has a strong presence in Alberta, connecting with stakeholders across the province to explain how the office advocates for law-abiding firearms owners and focus on safety.

Tracy has been on the front lines in Ottawa as the registered lobbyist for CCFR supporting firearms owners and businesses during the hearings and creation of Bill C-21.

Tracy will help us explain what C-21 is, what the bill entails, and common misunderstandings with the bill passing in parliament late last year. We’ll open up for questions from the audience to help clear up any misconceptions.

SHE SHOOTS PODCAST – Episode 23: Untamed Women

Join the ladies of the CUSF Women’s program, Project Mapleseed and LadyGuns for this episode of “She Shoots.”

This month, we welcome Cathy Wolf, a northern Alberta outfitter, avid mentor for women and youth in firearms and founder of Untamed Women.

Cathy lives in North Western Alberta with her husband and 4 kids. They are very much an outdoors family and enjoy all activities.

She grew up in a small agricultural town in central Alberta; where hunting wasn’t a main focus for her family. Firearms were around however, for gopher control. In the hunting world, she has been very fortunate in successfully harvesting every big game animal in Alberta and was first woman to do so. She has also completed her Super 10.

Cathy and her husband own an outfitting company called Wolf Huntin Adventures. Through it she has met a variety of individuals and she noticed a trend that the wives, girlfriends, and partners were intimidated or uninvolved. This inspired her to start Untamed Women and help build a network for women of all levels of experience to reach out and connect through range days, fishing adventures and hunting trips.

SHE SHOOTS PODCAST – Episode 22: Shooting Straight to the Olympics

Join the ladies of the CUSF Women’s program, Project Mapleseed and LadyGuns for this episode of “She Shoots.”

This month, we welcome Shannon Westlake, a Canadian champion in smallbore 3-Position Rifle and Air Rifle competitions, earning her place on the Canadian Olympic Team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Shannon Westlake began shooting at the age of 12 after joining Army cadets. She started shooting air rifle and smallbore, competing at local, provincial and national cadet championships. In 2001 and 2002, Shannon had the opportunity to represent Canada after earning a spot on the Cadet National Rifle team to compete in the Imperial Meeting fullbore matches held in Bisley, England.

Shannon loved shooting so much that she purchased her first fullbore rifle not long after leaving the cadet program. She competed at the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association National matches on several occasions, winning multiple short-range and mid-range matches. She also represented Canada in Bisley, England at the NRA Imperial matches and was a member of the Canadian Team at two World Long Range Shooting Championships, in Brisbane, Australia and in Camp Perry, Ohio, USA.

To train for fullbore during the winter, Shannon began shooting both 3-position smallbore rifle and Olympic air rifle shooting. She has represented Canada in these disciplines at multiple CISM military championships, World Cups, and Pan American Games.

In 2023, Shannon won the Canadian smallbore prone championship for the second year in a row by breaking the Canadian record with a score of 628.4. She also won the Canadian Women’s Air Rifle Championship and the Canadian Women’s 3-position Championship.

In October 2023, Shannon competed at her third Pan American Games where she won the bronze medal in the Women’s 3-position smallbore event, earning Canada a quota spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

SHE SHOOTS PODCAST – Episode 21: How to Organize a Women’s Range Day

Join the ladies of the CUSF Women’s program, Project Mapleseed and LadyGuns for this episode of “She Shoots.”

This month, we welcome Jamie-Lee Beggs, she is an avid hunter, angler, trapper and a successful range day coordinator. We will talk all about how to set up a successful range day, what you need to know before you begin planning, pitfalls and things to avoid along with gaining sponsors and final execution of the event.

Jamie-Lee is 36 years old, a Wife, Educational Assistant, Hunter, Angler, Trapper and range day coordinator. She also spends her free time being a backyard mechanic, gardener, canner, sewer, home renovator while enjoying riding her motorcycle and quads.

She has fished with her dad since she could hold a rod. She did not start hunting or shooting, both rifle and archery, until her mid 20s with her husband. A couple years ago she learnt the art or trapping from her dad and got licenced. It has quickly become her new favorite winter activity!
Jamie-Lee loves to be outdoors, spending time in nature and learning and discovering new things.

Teaching and introducing firearms, archery and hunting to new comers is a passion of hers. Using this passion, Jamie-Lee was able to put together a very successful women’s range day in Fort MacMurray which has only grown since.

SHE SHOOTS PODCAST – Episode 20: Jerrika in the Wild

Join the ladies of the CUSF Women’s program, Project Mapleseed and LadyGuns for this episode of “She Shoots.”

This month, we welcome Jerrika Geneau, host of her own TV show Jerrika in the Wild.

Jerrika is a 36 year old mother of 6, who lives between Southern Ontario, and Eastern Alberta.

Owner and operator of Jem Medical in Ontario, and a psychiatric nurse in Alberta. Jerrika has dedicated herself to constantly bettering herself, mind, body and soul. This includes bettering the lives of others along the way, organizing charity events, training healthcare workers, working with high acuity patients, and more.

If that isn’t already enough Jerrika is extremely active in outdoor activities with a heavy focus on hunting and harvesting for her family, friends and community. Jerrika has dedicated her life to learning and passing on traditional techniques she has acquired, maintaining the values she has been taught, honouring the animals she harvests by utilizing as much of the animal as possible, all in an effort to preserve conservation efforts to protect our wild life for many generations to come.

SHE SHOOTS PODCAST – Episode 19: Anna MacIntosh – CCFR Women’s Program

This month, we welcome Anna MacIntosh, the Vice President of the Women’s Program for the Canadian Coalition for Firearms Rights (CCFR).

Anna is an engineer by day but also spends her spare time teaching healthy movement classes, gardening, making jam, and of course – shooting.

Anna became licensed roughly 7 years ago and spent time shooting recreationally with her husband. After becoming a member of the CCFR and participating in the CCFR Gunnie Girl calendar, she jumped in with both feet being mentored by other women (and men) and getting trained as an RSO to support sponsored women’s range days in ON.

Fast forward a couple of years and she has taken her passion for empowering other women and teaching safe shooting basics to the next level for the women’s program.

SHE SHOOTS PODCAST – Episode 18: Gail Cook – Mounted Shooting

Join the ladies of the CUSF Women’s program, Project Mapleseed and LadyGuns for this episode of “She Shoots.”

This month, we welcome Gail Cook, a Champion Mounted Shooter in Canada and the United States.

Gail lives near Bentley, Alberta on an acreage with her partner Lee and their 3 mounted shooting horses.

She got involved in mounted shooting after taking a clinic in 2008 and since then Gail and Lee have competed in mounted shooting competitions across Canada and throughout the US.

Gail has multiple class wins in Canada and in the US, including Colorado, Texas, Idaho and Arizona. A couple of highlights for her are Overall Ladies Champion in Canada in 2014 and Cowboy Mounted Shooting Worlds Class Winner in Amarillo Texas in 2015.

Gail also operates her business, The Leather Loft from her home. She has been in business for 29 years and has made saddles, tack, gun leather, chaps and chinks. Currently, her focus is chaps and bags and last year she started a class on chap making.
